Curiosità
"[...] 'I saw this film,' gabbled Wobbler, 'where these houses were built on an old graveyard and someone dug a swimming pool and all the skeletons came out and tried to strangle people [...]". Questa trama si riferisce al film "Poltergeist" del 1982.
"[...] 'Ghosts don't phone up radio stations!' 'I saw this film once where they came out of the telephone,' said Bigmac, [...]". In questo caso si tratta del film "Poltergeist II" del 1986.
"[...] 'It's worse than that. I'm dead, Jim.' [...]". E' la citazione di una frase abbastanza ricorrente nel telefilm "Star Trek": "It's worse than that, he's dead Jim", solitamente pronunciata dal dottor McCoy al Capitano Kirk.
"[...]'These aliens landed and replaced everyone in the town with giant vegetables.' [...]". Citazione della trama del film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (in Italia "L'invasione degli ultracorpi").

Edito in Italia nel 1996 da Arnoldo Mondadori Editore nella collana Superjunior 90, "L'impossibile avventura di J. M." è stato tradotto da Angela Ragusa.
Nel 1999 è stato pubblicato da Arnoldo Mondadori Editore nella collana Junior Super 44.

Adattamenti - La serie televisiva
Il romanzo è stato adattato per la televisione e trasmesso nel 1995 sul canale ITV. Gli attori principali erano Andrew Falvey (Johnny), Brian Blessed (William Stickers), George Baker (Alderman Bowler).
